Hamuro mAiR Residency

The Hamuro mAiR Residency is intended for Finland-based cultural professionals, researchers and philosophers who would benefit from working in and experiencing rural Japan. The programme, which is usually by invitation only, focuses on creativity and slow networking.

Covered Expenses

The Finnish Institute in Japan covers one return journey between Finland and Japan for the selected resident. Hamuro mAiR provides accommodation and a €300 materials allowance. Family members are welcome to accompany the resident, but they are responsible for their own travel expenses.

Facilities

The residence is equipped with electricity, Wi-Fi, two single beds with futons, and a fully equipped kitchen. An affordable daytime taxi service is available for grocery shopping. A motorcycle is also available for use at Hamuro.

Additional Information

Awara Onsen Station is approximately three hours from Tokyo by express train. Kanazawa and Fukui are accessible by local train from nearby Hosorogi Station.

Please note that walking in the Hamuro area can be difficult, as many country roads do not have pedestrian paths.
