Hamuro mAiR Residency

The Hamuro mAiR is a residency for Finland-based cultural professionals, researchers, or philosophers who would benefit from working in and observing rural Japan. The normally invitation-only programme focuses on creativity and slow networking.

  • Residency period: June 1 – June 30 (one month)
  • Location: Kanaz Forest of Creation Area, Awara, Fukui Prefecture, Japan
  • In collaboration with: Hamuro-kai

Covered Expenses

The Institute will cover a return journey from Finland to Japan for the selected artist or researcher. Hamuro mAiR will provide accommodation and a €300 materials allowance. Family members may accompany the resident, but they must cover their own travel costs.

Facilities

The residence is equipped with electricity, Wi-Fi, two single beds with futons, and a fully equipped kitchen. For grocery shopping, an inexpensive daytime taxi service is available. Hamuro also has an in-house motorcycle.

Additional Information

From Tokyo, the express train to Awara Onsen Station takes approximately three hours. Kanazawa and Fukui can be reached by local trains from the nearby Hosorogi Station.
